Share

Progressive metal pioneers Dream Theater will release a limited-edition vinyl box set, Dream Theater Vol. 1. on September 27. The seven-LP collection features four of the band’s most acclaimed albums from the 1990s: Images and Words (1992), Awake (1994), Falling Into Infinity (1997), and Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory (1999).

The set highlights the band’s evolution during a crucial decade and showcases the intricate interplay between guitarist John Petrucci, drummer Mike Portnoy, bassist John Myung, keyboardist Jordan Rudess (who joined in 1999), and vocalist James LaBrie and played on Metropolis Pt 2: Scenes From a Memory.

Dream Theater’s influence on progressive metal genre is undeniable. From their formation in Boston, Massachusetts in 1985 to the present day, they have inspired countless bands that dreamed of breaking barriers and ignoring conventional time signatures.

Images and Words, which featured the hits “Pull Me Under” and “Another Day,” achieved gold status and landed a spot on Rolling Stone‘s “100 Greatest Metal Albums of All-Time.” “Awake” was praised by Guitar World magazine as one of the defining albums of 1994, while Rolling Stone readers voted Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory as the “Number One All-Time Progressive Rock Album.” And Classic Rock listed it as one of the “15 Greatest Concept Albums.”
