Ukrainian Metal Titans Jinjer Release Riveting Short Concert Documentary

Share

Hailing from the war-torn Ukrainian town of Gorlovka, Donbass, Jinjer have risen above adversity to become a dominant force in modern metal. Chronicling and illustrating their harrowing journey, the new Audiotree short-form documentary “From Nothing” features revealing interviews from the band members along with a raw, ravaging three-song performance.

“When they’re not destroying the stage, Jinjer face the camera and discuss themes of social anxiety, isolation, cancel culture, and self-doubt.”

Recorded at Audiotree Studios in Chicago on August 31, 2023, the session features blistering renditions of fan favorites “Vortex,” “Wallflower,” and “Dead Hands Feel No Pain,” and throughout Jinjer showcases trademark technical prowess and raw energy, thanks in no small part to guitarist Roman Ibramkhalilov’s aggressive performance.

Beyond the music, the session delves into the band’s creative process, and how their personal experiences escaping the horrors of missile and ground attacks from Russian soldiers has fueled their powerful music. When they’re not destroying the stage, Jinjer face the camera and discuss themes of social anxiety, isolation, cancel culture, and self-doubt.

Formed in 2009, Jinjer are characterized by unconventional melodies and intricate rhythms, solidified by the powerful vocals of Tatiana Shmayluk. Their lyrics tackle a wide range of themes, from social anxiety and isolation to self-discovery and the scars of trauma. To date, Jinjer have released four studio albums and three EPs. Their second and  live album, “Live in Los Angeles,” was recorded at The Wiltern in December 2022, and features a potent mix of fan favorites like “Sit Stay Roll Over” and “Pisces,” alongside tracks from their most recent album, 2021’s “Wallflowers.” The Deluxe Digipack edition includes two  bonus studio tracks, “Wallflower” and “Disclosure!,” recorded in Paris in 2023.

Jinjer will launch a North American tour with Hanabie and Born Of Osiris in September, followed by a European tour with Sepultura, Obituary, and Jesus Piece. And the end of the year, Jinjer play Latin America with Heaven Shall Burn.
